The Lung Cancer & International Pulmonology Institute of Texas is located in San Antonio, Texas, and is affiliated with Texas IPS. Our group of board-certified pulmonologists offers expertise and guidance for patients going through lung cancer treatments, and helps hospitals grow their own best-in-class lung cancer programs. We have a passion for improving the management of lung cancer, and are committed to providing expert service for our patients and physician partners. Dr. Abedi was born in Iran and immigrated to the United States in 1993. He attended graduate school in San Marcos, Texas, where he received a Masters of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology, and later completed medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine. After receiving his medical degree he returned to Texas where he completed residency training in Internal Medicine and completed a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.
In 2016, Dr. Abedi began practicing in San Antonio, joining Texas Intensivist Pulmonary and Sleep, where he continued to focus on interventional pulmonology and management of thoracic malignancies. Additionally, Dr. Abedi practiced general pulmonology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Abedi is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
Currently, Dr. Abedi is the Medical Director of Lung Cancer and Co-director of Interventional Pulmonology at Methodist Advanced Lung Center San Antonio.
Dr. Napoleon Puente received his undergraduate degree and later attended medical school at Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud Universidad San Salvador, El Salvador, C.A. He completed his residency training at Hospital Nacional Zacamil San Salvador, El Salvador, C.A and his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brown University in Providence, RI.
Dr. Puente began practicing in San Antonio with Texas Intensivist Pulmonary and Sleep, where he continues to focus on interventional pulmonology and management of thoracic malignancies, in addition to general pulmonology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Puente is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Jairo Melo attended Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin, Colombia, where he received his undergraduate degree and later attended medical school. Dr. Melo completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and his Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The University of Texas Medical School San Antonio.
In 2010, Dr. Melo founded Texas Intensivist Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine along with Dr. Arturo Lopez and Dr. Charles Burch. Dr. Melo continues to focus on interventional pulmonology and management of thoracic malignancies, in addition to general pulmonology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Melo is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.
